Welcome to my website which explores arts and crafts metalwork associated with the Home Arts and Industries Association.

I have a passion for the Arts and Crafts Movement, and in particular Arts and Crafts metal work. Through this interest I have learnt the craft of repousse and created my own range of 'art copper'. I have recently jointly written the first major study of Newlyn copper, Newlyn Copper, Arts and Crafts Copper Work in Newlyn, by Daryl Bennett and Colin Pill.

My interest, which like many started with the better known characters of the Arts and Crafts Movement such as William Morris and C R Ashbee has moved onto the, lesser known, schools and classes which started life under the umbrella of the Home Arts and Industries Association.

The first objective of this website is to celebrate the metalwork produced by craftsmen within a number of the,Classes, which operated under the Home Arts and Crafts Association. The second is to promote the range of 'Art Copper' which I produce in Bristol.

It is hoped to expand the knowledge base by encouraging interaction with fellow enthusiasts and descendants of the metalworkers, which will help fill some of the gaps in the various stories.

The website provides an insight to the Home Arts and Industries Association and the key metalwork classes by providing brief biographies which (where possible) identify principal people, designers and craftsmen as well as illustrating examples of work, and identifying further reading.

Please contact me at colinpill@live.com If you have any information that you think would be helpful (particularly on the Newlyn, Yattendon and Newton classes), or if you would like to ask me anything about my  'Art Copper'.

Many thanks

Colin Pill
